Sum 41 is a Canadian alternative rock band from Ajax, Ontario. The current members are Deryck Whibley (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Cone McCaslin (bass guitar, backing vocals), Steve Jocz (drums, percussion, and backing vocals).

In 1999, the band signed an international record deal with Island Records. Since then, the band has released four studio albums, all of which have been certified platinum in Canada. Their most successful album to date is All Killer No Filler, which is certified 3x platinum in Canada and platinum in the United States. The album was fueled by the single "Fat Lip", which reached the top position on the Billboard Modern Rock chart, making it the band's most successful single. The second single off the album, "In Too Deep", reached number-ten on the Modern Rock chart.

The band often performs more than 300 times in a single year and hold long global tours, most of which last more than a year. They have been nominated for seven Juno Awards (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy) and have won twice (Group Of The Year in 2002 and Rock Album of the Year for Chuck in 2005). They also have been nominated for three different Canadian Independent Music Awards: In 2004, they won a Woodie Award for "The Good Woodie (Greatest Social Impact)". Development was completed on November 8, 2006; over the following three months it was released in stages to computer hardware and software manufacturers, business customers, and retail channels. On January 30, 2007, it was released worldwide, and was made available for purchase and download from Microsoft's website. The release of Windows Vista came more than five years after the introduction of its predecessor, Windows XP, the longest time span between successive releases of Microsoft Windows.

Linkin Park is an American rock band from Agoura Hills, California. Since their formation in 1996, the band has sold more than 50 million albums and won two Grammy Awards. They achieved mainstream success with their debut album, Hybrid Theory, which was certified Diamond by the RIAA in 2005. Their following studio album, Meteora, continued the band's success, topping the Billboard 200’s album charts in 2003, and was followed by extensive touring and charity work around the world.

Recognized for their adaptation of the nu metal and rap rock genre into a radio-friendly yet densely-layered style in Hybrid Theory and Meteora, the band moved away from this and explored a variety of other genres in their latest studio album, Minutes to Midnight. The album topped the Billboard charts and had the third best debut week of any album that year.They have also collaborated with several other artists, most notably with rapper Jay-Z in their mash-up album Collision Course, and many others on Reanimation.

System of a Down (commonly referred to as System or abbreviated as SOAD) is an Armenian-American rock band, formed in 1994 in Glendale, California. Consisting of Serj Tankian (lead vocals and keyboards), Daron Malakian (vocals and guitar), Shavo Odadjian (bass), and John Dolmayan (drums), the band has released five albums since 1998. A staple on mainstream rock radio, their works have earned them four Grammy Award nominations, of which they won one.

System of a Down is very politically active (although they prefer to call themselves a socially aware band) and are noted for the left-wing political views expressed in their songs, tackling several subjects including the Armenian Genocide, War on Drugs, religion, and censorship. The band is a part of the Axis of Justice, a non-profit organization co-founded by Tankian and fellow musician Tom Morello, dedicated to bringing together musicians, music fans, and grassroots political organizations to fight for social justice.

In 2006, the group went on an "indefinite hiatus", and all four members are currently working on various side projects. In a late December interview in 2008, Serj Tankian was quoted as calling the hiatus 'permanent'.
